Standard Practice is a young Copenhagen-based architecture and design studio dedicated to the process of translating concepts into high-quality spaces and products crafted in-house.

We work across various scales, from architectural installations, to residential projects and hand-made furniture pieces, where we always maintain a close relationship with the local context. Our experience and holistic approach to each one of our projects, show an ongoing commitment to sustainability practices and celebrate aesthetical values while utilising local materials. 

This deep understanding of spatial principles drives an iterative design process, leading to the creation of high-quality, playful and unique designs.

From architectural interventions to crafted furniture pieces, we believe that the creation of a design experience is built upon the interplay of our studio's daring approach to design and sensitivity to our clients' needs.

With all of our projects we engage in prototyping and experimentation through multiple stages. From hand crafted models, to 1:1 detail tests we explore our design aspirations and inform our concept development process.

While doing so, we encourage the use of contemporary methods and implementation of natural, sustainable materials. As architects and designers we feel the responsibility to reduce our carbon impact and support local production, therefore we work only with locally sourced materials based on the context we are in.

Working with a limited and simple pallette, we challenge our practice by pushing the materials to the limit of their potential. Finding ways to unfold hidden or not yet explored possibilities of materials is a part of our studio’s core methodology.

Every once in a while, our studio becomes a labroratory. In material-testing-mode, we immerse ourselves in experiments; fine-tuned measurements, spreadsheets and safety-specs; exploring new methods of production and material expression that ultimately enhance our designs.

Some of our latest experiments included exploring low-carbon concrete alternatives, and steel coloration through heat treatment. Both resulted in a surprising discovery of unique textures and colour-ways, which we are in the process of implementing into our designs

Through these explorations, our projects embody a direct relationship between materials and concept.

Our projects are conceptualised in our small studio in Copenhagen, and produced in-house at our workshop by skilled craftsmen.

With a team comprising of architects, designers and craftsmen, our workflow is based on skillfully navigating and thriving in this interdisciplinary process. We engage in technical design development and oversee final productions of our projects. The proximity of a production facility allows us to deliver projects more efficiently, with less waste, and a more precise, aesthetically coherent hole.
